Fracture networks in shale-hosted igneous intrusions: Processes, distribution and implications for igneous petroleum systems

چکیده
Igneous intrusions in sedimentary basins can influence basin-scale fluid flow and petroleum systems various ways. They may act as barriers, preferential pathways or even reservoirs for fluids. The fracture networks of usually represent the main control their hydraulic properties. However, our understanding different fracturing mechanisms quantitative effect on network properties remains limited, good field examples are sparse. Here, we present a comprehensive study from Neuquén Basin, Argentina, using reservoir-scale outcrop sill complex emplaced organic-rich shale, which constitutes direct analogue oil-producing fractured igneous reservoirs. We provide evidence affecting network, including cooling joints, bituminous dykes, hydrothermal veins, tectonic faults. Using high-resolution digital quantification, then tie these to spatial variations orientation, intensity connectivity. Our results indicate that all observed types involved hydrocarbon migration and/or storage. Bitumen very high thermal grade within implies hydrocarbons into sills destructive high-temperature environment. Importantly, bitumen dykes faults locally alter creating zones strongly increased connectivity therefore improved reservoir

Igneous processes of the Early Solar System
Experimental, petrographic and numerical methods are used to explore the igneous evolution of the early solar system. Chapters 1 and 2 detail the results of petrographic and experimental studies of a suite of primitive achondritic meteorites, the ureilites. The first chapter presents data that reveal correlations between mineral modal proportions and mineral chemistry that are used to guide exp...
متن کاملImpact Crater and Basin Control of Igneous Processes on Mars
Numerous martian impact craters have been heavily modified by processes restricted to the crater interior. A common expression of this modification is the presence of extensive fractures arranged in a concentric plan and typically forming moats that engulf the old crater wall. Although similar styles of modification occur on the moon, martian floor-fractured craters display a greater diversity ...
متن کاملMagma Composition and Igneous Rocks
Introduction In the following chapters we will find that nearly all of the varied aspects of volcanism are either directly or indirectly controlled by the chemical composition of magma and the rate at which it cools and solidifies. If you are to understand and appreciate subsequent discussions of volcanoes and related volcanic phenomena, it is essential that you have a good grasp of the basic c...
متن کاملMicrosampling and Isotopic Analysis of Igneous Rocks: Implications for the Study of Magmatic Systems
Isotopic fingerprinting has long been used to trace magmatic processes and the components that contribute to magmas. Recent technological improvements have provided an opportunity to analyze isotopic compositions on the scale of individual crystals, and consequently to integrate isotopic and geochemical tracing with textural and petrographic observations. It has now become clear that mineral ph...
